‘Bitesize’ fishing lessons make it easier for newcomers of all ages to get into this superb sport and learn a new skill that can last a lifetime. The courses are professionally run and aimed at complete novices with our friendly coaches taking you through each stage, teaching you everything you need to know to be able to have an enjoyable day’s fishing.

Fishing Lessons alternate between fly and multi bait and are held every Tuesday and Sunday from Tuesday 7 April (see below for further detail on the types of fishing lessons).
Children must be accompanied by an adult, who can either pay to take part or attend for free and supervise. Please read and take note of our safety and fishing rules information which you can download below.
We can also offer try it days for £30 at our other premier trout fisheries, ‘adults are required to attend as paying participants to support the juniors.’

Multi bait lessons
If you have never fished before then this is for you! This is an introduction into the sport of angling using various baits such as worm, PowerBait and spinners. This will include casting instruction, a demonstration on how to set up your tackle and the methods behind hooking, playing and landing a fish properly. All this is done whilst your bait is in the water with the expectation of catching some trout for tea!
Fly fishing lessons
For anglers who wish to learn the art of fly casting using both natural and imitative patterns – then this is the method for you! You will receive casting demonstrations followed by a practical session on the grass. You will also receive an overview of various tactics used to locate, tempt and hook a fish. You will examine different flies and how they can be used in different conditions and at various times of year. This is an extremely popular fishing lesson lead by a qualified casting instructor and has built the foundations for many successful fly anglers.
Beginner’s fishing lessons at Hanningfield Waterside Park are professionally run and aimed at complete newcomers of all ages to this superb sport. Classes take place on Saturdays and cost £69 per person per day (juniors must be aged 8 or over).
These lessons are a great introduction to fly fishing and extremely popular with children and adults, continuing to go from strength to strength.
The course covers casting, tackle, knots, techniques, trout behaviour and safety. All equipment is provided alongside lunch, all you need to do is come appropriately dressed for the weather. In the afternoon you will get an opportunity to try your hand at practicing what you have learnt.
Follow up improver sessions are also available throughout the year and cost £22 per person.
