Important Information For Anglers – Winter Season
From 1 November 2025 until March 2026 our winter season hours and prices are as follows:
For Rainbow trout fishing at Derwent and Grassholme opening hours from 1 November 2025 will be 8.00am until 4pm.
Derwent will continue to be stocked during November so permit prices will remain as they are now.
Trout fishing permits at Derwent will reduce to £25 for an 8 fish limit on 1 December 2025.
As in previous years Derwent will only close for fishing on Christmas day and permit prices will not increase until we start our new season stocking in March 2026.
We have now completed this years stocking at Grassholme so during November the permit price will be reduced to £25 for an 8 fish limit. Grassholme will close for the season at the end of November 2025 and will reopen again in March 2026.
Fontburn is now closed for the rest of this season and will reopen for fishing in March 2026.
Kielder Water boat fishing now closed, bank fishing remains open until Friday 14 November 2025 and will reopen again for boat and bank fishing in March 2026.
An update for our Hury anglers, we have had confirmation that the delayed essential safety works planned for last year will now take place in 2026.
This means Hury will be off line next season and we hope to reopen again as a fly only water in 2027. As last year the allocated stock fish for Hury will now be stocked into Grassholme reservoir to accommodate anticipated extra visits in 2026. As in previous years Coarse and Pike permits will be available all year round on our coarse fisheries and at Derwent Reservoir.
We do hope that given favourable weather conditions you will continue to enjoy some winter sport.
If you decide to take the winter season off, we would like to thank you all for your continued support over the traditional season and look forward to seeing you again in the spring of 2026.
With the fishing season fast-approaching, Northumbrian Water has announced key dates and information about the 2025 season across reservoir sites in the North.
Anglers can enjoy an early kick off at Derwent Reservoir from Saturday 22 February. Derwent will be stocked prior to this with 3300 Rainbow Trout.
Fontburn, Grassholme and Kielder Water will all open on Saturday 8 March.
Hury will remain closed for the 2025 season in order to carry out essential works to the reservoir. This work will ensure Northumbrian Water can provide customers with the highest levels of water quality and customer service well into the future from nearby treatment works. The works involves closing access to the north shore for machinery and drawdown of the reservoir.
However we’re thrilled to share that the stock reared and allocated for Hury will be added to Grassholme to accommodate anticipated extra visits.
Day permit prices for Rainbow Trout fishing will remain at our 2024 prices.
As usual, Coarse, Pike and Wild Brown Permits are available too. After holding these permit prices for several years, we have applied a small increase for the 2025 season. Those increases are £2 on all sites and Wild Brown trout fishing by £1.
Weather conditions early in the season may change and as always, our number one priority is visitor comfort and safety, therefore we may need to adjust some of our opening dates. Updates will be made to both the website and our social media channels in the event of any change to the publicised information.
