Let your Derwent based adventure begin!

With activities for groups, families, couples and individuals to enjoy, this is the perfect day out destination. Walk, cycle, slide and swing your way around our beautiful park, complete with convenient amenities to enhance your visit and watch out for our ever-extending events list throughout the year to keep you and your family entertained.

Please can we remind all visitors that entering the water for unauthorised swimming, water sports / inflatables fun or just for a quick cool down is not allowed. We like to keep all our visitors safe and to do this we must request that you stay out of the water and its hidden dangers at all times.

Play Park

Our play park has something to make all children smile and laugh with glee.

Cafe and shop

We have a great selection of homeware, gifts and toys, great for that someone special. Our self-serving café offers sandwiches, snacks, refreshments, ice creams and hot drinks.

Walking

With multi-user trails on each side of the reservoir and a nature trail to keep the kids entertained, you can enjoy the fresh air and stunning views as often as you like.

Cycling

With events like Tour of the Reservoir hosted yearly bringing in elite riders from across the world, the cycle routes available are well worth experiencing.

Dark skies

A perfect spot for the perfect night sky. On a clear night, you will be amazed at the wonders you can see from here. Events coming soon that you do not want to miss.

Nature

See what you can spot around the park, near the water or as part of our nature trail. You can even receive a prize from the cafe if you can complete the nature trail and find the hidden word!

Picnic

There is nothing better than packing a delicious picnic and enjoying family time at a breathtaking location. We have the perfect spot for you right here.

Just for dogs

Dogs are more than welcome around our park and walks but must be kept on leads. However, as we know our four-legged friends love to run wild we have a 12-acre field just for them to be free!

Water Sports

Derwent Sailing Club offers sailing, windsurfing and open water swimming for those who really love to get close to the water.

Fishing

A fantastic sport, with tons of health benefits and something the family can enjoy together. Once you get that first bite, you will be hooked.

Dark Skies at Derwent

Classed as a dark sky friendly site within County Durham, Derwent is a fantastic spot to view the shimmering stars, study planets like Jupiter and Saturn and have the best view of meteor showers that take place across the year.
