Any method fishing for rainbow trout and coarse fishing for roach
IMPORTANT ANGLING UPDATE FONTBURN RESERVOIR
Further to our last update regarding the road closure we had hoped the reservoir level would increase with the recent rainfall during this time. Having looked at the forecast it is apparent that the level will continue to fall during this time leaving the banks unsafe to fish. The safety of all visitors to our sites is our number one priority. So, with that in mind, we have no choice but to close Fontburn Reservoir, for angling, due to the low water level on the site and unsafe bank conditions. Regular anglers on the site will know that, historically, when levels have dropped – as they do naturally – we have suspended angling on site, and this is the situation at present.
While we understand this will be a disappointment for people who like to visit the site, we hope you understand that your safety must come first and ask that people respect the closure. We will continue to monitor the site, with safety at the forefront of our minds, and update this page when we have news on a date for re-opening.
We look forward to being able to welcome people back to Fontburn when the time is right and hope that, in the meantime, you continue to enjoy our other sites safely. In the meantime, Rainbow Trout angling remains available at Kielder Water, Derwent and Grassholme reservoirs.
Fontburn offers top class trout fishing for fly and any method anglers, alongside holding good stocks of pristine roach for coarse anglers. Fontburn is suitable for disabled anglers with an accessible platform on the north shore.
For those anglers who like to wander, the lightly fished middle and western end of the north and south shore can provide some excellent sport when the trout are well spread.
All fish stocked are from our own onsite fish farm, and some of those stocked are tagged fish with cash prizes available. You can also loose feed and ground bait around the reservoir.
On-site we have an excellent lodge shop stocked with everything you need for a days fishing including rods, reels, tackle, accessories, clothing, worms, bait, ice creams and refreshments including hot and cold drinks.
