The safety of all visitors to our sites is our number one priority.
So, with that in mind, we have no choice but to delay the re-opening of Fontburn Reservoir, including for angling. We had hoped to re-open the site on Saturday 29 August, but this is not going to be possible and we appreciate that this is disappointing news for those who enjoy visiting and angling at Fontburn.
Due to hotter and drier conditions than normal, levels are low on the site and it would not be safe to fish there. Regular anglers on the site will know that, historically, when levels have dropped – as they do naturally – we have suspended angling on site, and this is the situation at present.
Additionally, due to the topography of Fontburn Reservoir, the exposed banks and shoreline are too soft, slippy and steep for it to be safe for walkers who might venture onto them.
While we understand this will be a disappointment for people who like to visit the site, we hope you understand that your safety must come first, and ask that people respect the continued closure.
We will continue to monitor the site, with safety at the forefront of our minds, and update these pages when we have news on a new date for re-opening. We look forward to being able to welcome people back to Fontburn when the time is right and hope that, in the meantime, you continue to enjoy our other sites safely.
