Catch of the week:

R Berry with a fantastic catch weighing in at an impressive 20lb for an 8 fish limit.

Memorable moment of the week:

Simon Monkhouse from Wideopen caught the 11th tagged fish of the season this week. Simon’s fish was fine 3lb blue trout caught on a Gold Head Hares Ear from the Dam Wall.

Best area and flies:

Fish are well spread out along the North Shore to the Bay Of Plenty, with Cronkley fishing particularly well. Smaller imitative wet flies have produced excellent catches and small dries are bringing fish up, even when none can be seen rising, perseverance is the key. Alternatively an intermediate line with a snake or booby can bring a vicious take

Best areas & baits / lures

As always Ledgered PowerBait consistently brings fish to the net, with Orange or Garlic scented Eggs the top choice. Top area has been the first fence along to Murrays Point. Spinning using fry imitating, Toby type lures, is really coming in to its own now as water temperatures are ideal, encouraging fish to chase down mobile baits, with the dam wall an ideal place to try.
