Scaling Dam – Important Trout Fishing Announcement

During the pandemic we have had the opportunity to look at our current angling options across the region and the challenging decision has been made to change the way Scaling Dam is operated.

Over the past decade we have seen a big decrease in the number of anglers at Scaling Dam, and with the inflation in prices to stock the reservoir versus the number of visitors, it means that it is no longer viable to run the reservoir as a stocked trout fishery.

We are delighted to say that we can still offer coarse and pike fishing to our customers in the area, via web bookings only at bookwhen.com/watersideparksnorth

In addition we will continue to maintain the site and the toilet facilities for our visitors, but the visitor centre will only be manned at selected times. The reservoir will also remain accessible to the public, for walking and picnicking, in the same way that it has always been.

Our fantastic team of Rangers will continue to work across our sister sites, where we have lots of alternative trout fishing opportunities at Grassholme, Hury, Derwent, Fontburn and Kielder.

We appreciate this will be disappointing news for some of you and it is a decision that has been extremely difficult for us to make.

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported Scaling Dam. The incredible support from the surrounding communities and anglers has been overwhelming and without you we wouldn’t have been able to have this offering throughout the last decade.
